Last night we rolled up to the center in the inner city to a huge line of homeless men and women awaiting food from another group of people. Tonight was the first night that I pulled up without any apprehension and was quite excited to see these guys. This time, when I got out of the van Kyle was waiting for me. Unlike last time he remembered that I was the one who had invested in loving on him and so he was ready to invest back this night. He walked right up to me, called me by name and embraced me. He asked how I was doing, he wanted know how my kids and wife were and then we hopped right into conversation. I minced no words. I asked if he was staying sober at all. He told me that he had been doing great, but then he made an extra $100 over the weekend and went and "partied" as he put it. Translation: Drank lots of beer and got hammered. However, again tonight he was sober. The great thing was, was that he even called my office last week just to see how I was doing. Tonight he gave … [Read more...]
RAW
In its rawest form worship is beautiful. Tonight as I sit in a very raw environment it is beautiful. Robby Seay leads and everyone sings. Not out of routine or obligation. Not because he is the one leading, but out of a deep and raw love for their Savior. The time is free to express ones self through your giftedness. Children paint, photographers snap memories, writers create thoughts only from "One". The room is simple, yet amazing. Minimal lights, paintings, pictures, wood, sculptures, thought provoking images. It is funny that when you use people in their true giftedness the actual voice of God is heard. Simple, stripped, unashamed, "RAW". I long to be in and lead a church of this RAW nature. REMEDY, ROCK SHOWS AND REST
Here it is 1:15am and I am just getting into my comfortable La Quinta bed in Houston. As promised, my boys from OUTLET played a rockin' show tonight. There were about 80 kids there for the benefit tonight. They were all so great to come out and donate their time and money to the cause of Eradicating Poverty. I am quite tired, but it is a good tired. It is a tired that says that we may have actually accomplished something today. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow, but it will be another good one I am sure. I am for sure ready to get home and see my little girls and my big girl(that would be my wife if you are wondering). Until then, we will continue to spread the word of Eradicating Poverty and Rockin' Venues across the south. Hope to see you all soon. Wearing The Hearts Of Others On My Sleeves … [Read more...]
AHHH…LA QUINTA
So after a long day of travel to Houston we are chillin' at the La Quinta until it is time to go to the venue. I am crazy tired right now, but cannot wait to hang out with the Houston peoples. My boys from OUTLET are prepared to play a rockin show tonight and I cannot wait to see them Rock It Like A Hurricane!!! I am actually really excited about the opportunity to share our Remedy vision with a new crowd of people tonight and cannot wait to see how they respond. I will give you more updates later tonight...until then...it is nappy nap time. Talk with you later. … [Read more...]
H-TOWN
Well here it is 6:40AM and I have now been up for almost two hours. Today we are heading to Houston for a big benefit show for Remedy For This Heart. We have some good friends there that believe in what we are doing, so they are hosting a big battle of the bands and all the proceeds go to our organization. Thank you to Jeremy and Eli at Grace Christian Church for all of your support and help. I am taking my good friends in the band OUTLET with me and they will be playing a great rock show tonight and then hanging around with me tomorrow to lead worship when I speak. So with that said...H-TOWN here we come. I will update later today and tonight and let you know how everything goes. Until then. Wearing The Hearts Of Others On My Sleeve!!! … [Read more...]
UNACCOMPLISHED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
It has definantly been one of those weeks. Have you ever had one of those? You feel like you have done a lot, but at the end of each day you are not really sure what you did. That has been my entire week. Let me walk you through this week up to this point. Monday: Woke up early to take my girls to school. Wife has the flu and stuck in bed. Go to work(or lack thereof) and do stuff until 4:00pm. Go pick up girls from school. Go home and cook dinner. Put girls to bed. Listen to wife hack. Play Madden 08 on my psp. Go Sleep. Tuesday: Wake up early again and take girls to school. Go to staff meeting with team. Go to creative team and be slightly creative for an hour. Go to preaching team and write sermons with our team. Go to young adult stuff and lead worship. Go home and watch L.A. Ink. Listen to my wife hack again. Watch local news and go to sleep. Wednesday: Wake up early(not because I had to take girls to school, but now my internal clock is set). Get to work early and don't … [Read more...]

LOSING CONTROL
Yester"day" was a great day. I had the privilege of speaking this weekend to a couple thousand people onĀ hearing God speak. It was really a surreal experience this weekend. On top of that our non-for-profit organization had its biggest weekend to date in selling our merchandise. All in all yester"day" was a great day. Then the tired and cranky set into my soul. My wife stayed home with our girls in the morning because she was not feeling well. When I came home I sent her to the afternoon clinic down the street to have her find out that she has the flu and is highly infectious (woo hoo)!!! On top of that my oldest daughter decided that she did not want to listen to a single thing that we asked her to do. This is where I began to lose control. Even though yester"day" was great, yester"night"(yes I understand that that is not a word) sucked!!! I got to that point where I was simply angry with my three year old. I found myself yelling and ranting and raving over stupid stuff. I was … [Read more...]
KYLE
Every couple of weeks I have the incredible opportunity to hang out with a couple hundred homeless friends. Over the course of the past couple months I have become friends with a 49 year old (his birthday is today) homeless man named Kyle. I just want to share with you what I have learned from Kyle. The first night I met him, he was a little innebreated, but we talked for a good two hours. It never got below surface level that first night, but at the end of the night he asked me to pray with him. So for the past month I have been praying for Kyle. All day yesterday I prayed that as we went to the hood to hang out with my homeless friends that Kyle would be there. Really it was a shot in the dark, but I thought if anyone could make it happen it might be God!!! So we pull up to the center and as I step out of the car the very first person I see standing by the gate was...you guessed it...KYLE!!! Right away I recognized him and called him by name. He turned and looked at me with that … [Read more...]
