DOUGLAS/LEWIS WEDDING PREVIEW

The last two days my good friend Cal and I spent our time in Houston, TX with our good friends Sara Douglas and Nathan Lewis. This weekend was their wedding and we were pumped to go down and shoot this one. We did their engagement photos back in the fall and have been anticipating the wedding day every since. 5 THINGS I’M INTO RIGHT NOW: MUSIC ISSUE

That's right kids...it is time for another issue of 5TIIRN. I don't know if anyone else is enjoying this little weekly post of all things AWESOMENESS, but I sure the heck like it. This week has been crazy busy so that is why it is Tuesday that you are getting this tid bit of brilliance from others. This week I decided to do an all things music issue. So here are five bands I am into right now and think you should be as well. 1. THE BLACK KEYS These guys are one of the most ridiculous duos in my musical arsenal. They are not the only guitar and drum only duo in this issue, but their soul, bluesy, and rock riffs rival some of Rocks greats. With guitar tones like Hendrix and vocals like Muddy Waters, this band will take you to a place in an era past with a modern feel. This is their newest album and it is no disappointment. Yesterday I had the privilege to shoot photo's of a very chill and rockin dude named Zeb. He just has the air about him that brings you peace and joy when you are around him. We had to shoot in the rain for part of the shoot, but then we found this little cave inside a building that was perfect for what we wanted to do with some of his stuff outside. Here is my favorite shot of the day. He is into old vintage stuff, so I threw some of my vinyl and my record player in and this was the result. 4 LESSONS THE CHURCH COULD LEARN FROM THE GENIUS BAR!!!

Today I had to make a trip to the local Apple Store (aka Mecca to some of us). I did not stand at the north wall of the building and pray, but I did need to see a Genius about what was up with my battery not keeping a charge longer than a nano second (no relation to the ipod nano). As I sat and waited for my appointment I learned some valuable lessons about how the Church could be more like the Genius bar. 1. They introduce themselves and call you by name the whole time you are there: I cannot tell you how often I have introduced myself to someone new to our church and two seconds later I forget their name because I am so preoccupied with other things. I usually chalk it up to I am horrible with names, but the reality is, is that I am horrible at paying attention. Apple has proven that as long as you are in their presence, you are getting their full and undivided attention. We as pastors should do the same for those we minister to. 2. Last week I introduced you to a new post I am going to do weekly on this little piece of island known as TREVORDEVAGEdotCOM. It is called the "5 Things I'm Into Right Now" post. Each week I will try and lead the tens of you to places that I have stumbled upon in my journeys through space and time. VINYL MAKES ME THINK BETTER

Yesterday was a good day. The morning was spent getting much done and making contact with many people. 12:15pm, much like most Wednesday's, was time to go to the elementary school and mentor the 3rd grade students our staff has the privilege to pour into each week. Lunch with Jeremy Peterson followed as we ate quesadillas and burritos to commemorate Cinco De Mayo. The rest of the afternoon was spent writing, preparing and getting ready for some great meetings with some great people the rest of the week. I knew that time was going to be tight the rest of the day due to the fact I was going to have another meeting with some AWESOME people again last night. 4:00pm I went and picked up my girls from school and headed home to spend an hour and a half with them. One of the things I love about my girls is that they love art in any form and they really love listening to music on vinyl. So we did what any person needing to relax did... GO TOWARDS THE LIGHT

Sometimes I feel as if this is what my mind and life looks like. There is all this stuff just jumbled around in little circles. Each of the circles represent something else that I cannot seem to let go of, get past, or get over!!! In fact as I look at it all together I cannot even seem to make out what my mind is actually looking at. It looks familiar...it looks reminiscent of something I have seen before...but... I'M NOT SURE!!! Then I realize that in between all the stuff, there is new stuff, fresh stuff Stuff...that matters. Stuff that has meaning. Stuff that outweighs the stuff I am unsure of. This stuff brings hope, joy, freedom, assurance, and grace. I may not be able to tell what it all is or means, but I do know that there is a light I have seen before. A light I am drawn too. A light that breaks through all...the...stuff. Good or bad...the light permeates it!!! I MUST GO TOWARDS THE LIGHT!!! … [Read more...]
