who would you give a second chance to?

POTSC

a few weeks ago i read this incredible book by mike foster. you should pick it up HERE. it spoke right to the core of what i long to be and do. what is great is that there is an entire movement that has been spawned called People Of The Second Chance. Below is what they stand for and a video that you should all put out there. I am also apart of their Grace Mob Campaign and hope you would consider joining too. Who We Are We are a global community of activists, imperfectionists and second chancers committed to unleashing radical grace everyday, in every moment, for everyone. We challenge the common misconceptions about failure and success and stand with those who have hit rock bottom in their personal and professional lives. We are a community that is committed to stretch ourselves in the areas of relational forgiveness, personal transparency and advocate for mercy over judgment. Founded in 2010, our organization is based in Southern California.  TARGET AUDIENCE The message … [Read more...]

-art is meant to disturb-

creativity

if you have been following this space or my facebook or twitter over the past week you have seen or participated in the conversation of how creativity and art parallel with the church. through this discussion i had a great online conversation with a good friend and former student of mine who is an incredible artist. i will spare you the great conversation, but she said something at the end of it that has resonated so true in my mind and soul as i wrapped my mind around this topic to teach. she said, "Every child is an artist until someone tells them they aren’t. I think adults are scared to be as creative as kids are.” i have read this statement and quoted it probably a dozen times in the last two days as i have prepared and taught on this topic. i think what disturbs me about this quote is that it is more than true in most peoples lives. at some point in life we were told either directly or indirectly that we are not creative. the problem i have with us saying that we are not … [Read more...]

friday 5

5

welcome to the first friday five. today as i sit and think about the past four days prior, it hit me that just about each week there are at least five things that i have loved from my week. so, with that said here is my friday 5. 1. loved working in the yard this week and the fact that it has been in the 80's all week. we are trying to get our garden and yard back in shape for this year. nothing better than having the whole family outside for some good ole' quality time. 2. loved playing guitar and helping lead worship a couple times this week. being that i am a drummer at my core, getting to play more guitar has been a fun creative outlet as of late. hope i get better, but like that i can hold my own just a little bit this week. 3. loved our community group this week. we are continually surrounded by people that we love and genuinely love us. i am blown away by the love and trust that we share with this gr0up of people. side note: happy 10th anniversary to chris and elisa … [Read more...]

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR HOUSE IS AN IGLOO?

HFO1

We awoke this morning to the sound of sleet hitting the windows. It was rhythmic and serene for me. It lulled me back to sleep. We have been in Texas for almost nine years and today was the first time the weather made me long to be back in the midwest. The windchill this morning was -11. You read that right... -11... IN TEXAS!!! So what does one do when they cancel school, work, and life itself? What do you do when the snowpocolypse hits global warming USA...well...ya read, study, drink warm beverages, and enjoy the warmth of a fire place and your family. Here's to today!!! Here's to God forcing me to slow down and be in rhythm with him. Ok...so what do you do when outside will not welcome you? … [Read more...]

SNOW DAYS

NATSNOWDAY

This week we decided to surprise the in-laws and headed to Illinois for the first time in 2 and a half years (which is way to long of a wait). Twelve hours later and we arrived in the frozen, snow covered tundra of the mid-west. Yesterday was the perfect day and we headed out in the snow with the girls for what would be a great day of playing and fun. Here are some pics and a video of our day. Hope you enjoy. … [Read more...]

THINKING BIBLICALLY

Last week I came across this video snippet of Francis Chan from Catalyst East 2010. I have not been able to shake what he said. Does my life fit in the context of scripture? If someone where to look at my life would it make sense to see it in scripture or would it be weird to them? As I wrestle through this I hope you will too. This is worth the 7 min...I promise. … [Read more...]
