I don’t know how many of you know this, but my beautiful wife is currently the reining Mrs. North Richland Hills here in the beautiful state of Texas. Which means that in about a month and a half we will be traveling to Corsicana, TX for this years Mrs. Texas Pageant where she will be competing. Now the beauty of this is, is that when it comes to pictures we don’t have to pay lots of money to have her headshots done. It is quite convenient that she has a photographer living in her house. That would be me in case you were wondering. So today we set out to get her headshot done for the program and the judges sheet. SHOULD YOU LEAVE MY CHURCH?

Read a great article this morning by Donald Miller on an interesting topic about asking people to leave church. I was going to try and rehash his entire entry, but thought that I would share and link. Would love to hear your thoughts on this one!!! Here is what he says: A couple times at a church I’m familiar with, here in Portland, the lead pastor, has very kindly asked people to leave. I remember a specific time he just stood up and asked how many people had been coming to church for a year or more but hadn’t found a way to plug into the community. MUSIC SAVES LIVES

Tomorrow Night I have the privilege of playing drums with my good friend Rob Gotcher. We are playing a benefit show at Buon Giorno Coffee Shop in Grapevine, TX. from 8:00pm-10:00pm. Now this is not your run of the mill show, this is a show with a purpose. We are raising money to help out a great organization called Sower of Seeds. They are currently working heavily in India providing fresh water to children who are literally dying without it. The show is free, but if you come out and make at least a $7 donation, you will get half off you coffee at the shop. Please come out and spend your Saturday night with us. Not only do I have the privilege to play with Rob, but I am also stoked to play with the guitar genius of Cal Knapp and the tasty bass licks from James Putnam. A PIECE OF MY LIFE

Some of you saw last week that I was in Maryland and had the opportunity to document a little bit of time with my grandma (mom-mom). About two years ago the man she was married to for almost 70 years past from this life to the next. My grandfather (pop-pop) was interesting to say the least. He was an old school Greek guy who came over as a baby through Ellis Island. There are many funny and crazy stories I could tell you about him, but I don't have enough blog to tell them all. However, while I was home I found a Polaroid picture at my mom-mom's house that simply epitomized the life and nature of my pop-pop. I asked her if I could have it and she obliged. Well everyone...today is March 20, 2010. And we all know what that means...what...you don't know? Ok, well let me be the first to wish you a Happy Vernal Equinox Day!!! Some of you just said "what the heck is that?" Well let me tell ya. It is the first day of spring. In fact one of my favorite parts of the Vernal Equinox is the fact that this is the one day out of the year where you can balance an egg on its end and it will stay that way all day long due to the gravitational pull. Today was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the air fresh. It was one of those days that reminds you that spring is just around the corner. There is a girl in our community here in Roanoke, named Mea, that has had a pretty crazy few months. Amidst all of that craziness, my wife and I, among others have seen some really cool things going on in her spirit. The one thing that Laura and I noticed is that she has a really sweet spirit and a desire to change the world around her. The other thing we noticed is that she has this beauty about her that we wanted to encourage her in. She has a desire to do some modeling and we thought what better way to help get her going than to get her some photo's for her portfolio. We found this great old Laundromat in downtown Roanoke, TX that was our first venue. This week my baby girl Ella is student of the week at school. She has had to do this poster with pictures of what represents her and her life. There are about 8 or 9 pictures that she picked. I could not be MORE PROUD of my sweet daughter. We worked on this project together tonight and I am excited about the girl that my baby is becoming. I am also sad that my precious first born is starting to seem so grown up. She is a wonderful, smart, beautiful, caring, and loving little girl with a compassion for others. PEOPLE I LOVE: MY GRANDMOM!!!

Sunday of last week I jumped on a plane and headed east. This was not just a trip to get away this was a trip with an agenda. The agenda was simple...love on my 90 year old grandma and try to cheer her up. The stark reality is that she is not getting any younger and has been deteriorating in health over the past couple of years. She has good days and bad days. She remembers people most the time, but sometimes she does not. For whatever reason she always remembers me and my girls. Now I wish I could have packed the whole family up and brought them with me, but I decided that this trip would best be done solo and I could really pour into my grandma for the week. So that is exactly what I have done. She is an incredible woman who has led an incredible life. She was married for 67 before my grandpa passed away. She was loyal to him and all around her. She is tough yet gentle, fragile yet a rock. She has seen a lot of life and has raised three very successful children. I am blessed to still … [Read more...]
