Okay, so I’m not encouraging everyone to overindulge themselves and gain a lot of weight this season, but I am encouraging you to gain blessings by serving others. So, what is this about? It’s about the organization, Heifer International.  This organization raises funds in order to provide animals and seeds and education to areas and individuals that are in need. It is great because people learn how to raise animals and to profit from them so when the animals reproduce, they give the offspring to others to learn how to do the same-and on and on and on. Remedy for this Heart, our non for profit organization has decided to support Heifer this year by raising funds through selling t-shirts and holding a benefit concert. We have decided to support the Arkansas project, Seeds of Hope. The Delta Sprouts is a southeast Arkansas cooperative established to serve the people of Chicot, Desha and Drew counties. These counties struggle with poverty, poor nutrition, unemployment, decreased population from economic flight and limited jobs due to lack of education. To create the maximum benefit for participants, the project will provide 17 families with heifers, goats and sheep; assist 116 families in producing food and income for their families; and establish two learning centers for livestock and horticulture education. The original 17 families who receive livestock will pass on the gift to an additional 17 families, while the learning centers will impact 50 families per year. The project will also establish three farmers markets and one community kitchen that will benefit 45 families. To learn more, check out their website-look under GIVE, Fund a Project-Arkansas Project. My good friends over at the organization SHE DANCES are in the middle of a campaign to raise money to get their safe house in Honduras funded for the next year. They are asking 200 people to commit to $20 a month for the next year. It seems a small price to pay to give girls their lives and innocence back. Here is what they wrote on their website recently:

Every girl deserves to dream. Every girl deserves hope. Every girl deserves to love and to be loved. Every girl deserves to dance. When she dances she is alive… when she dances she is free. THE POST BELOW IS FROM OUR REMEDY BLOG. I POSTED THE FIRST ONE HERE FOR YOU, BUT PLEASE FOLLOW HERE!!!

Yesterday I had the joy of hanging out with one of those people I have collided with in life that is steadily becoming a great friend. Jeremy and I headed down to the West Village in Dallas yesterday and had an afternoon of conversation with Anne Jackson. Now she has lots of accolades behind her name and is a mind of brilliance, especially in the Christian world. What I love about Anne is that she is continually wrestling with and having open and hard conversations within the context of life and ministry.
Now you may be wondering why the introduction above. Well…glad you asked. Anne, Pete Wilson (Lead pastor at Crosspoint.tv) and a team of peeps are going to board a plane and head to India for the next few weeks. They are going to encounter things they have never experienced before. They are going to touch poverty in a way they have never touched it before. They are going to smell poverty in a way they have never smelled it before. The are going to have new eyes given to them to help them see in a way they have never seen before. One and a half years ago I was right there. I was in the heart of one of the most poverty stricken countries in the world and it completely messed me up when I came home. I know that when Anne, Pete and there team return they will not be the same. I also know that they are going to want to do something about that when the return. SO….here is what I submit:

This is a community where we want to support the oppressed and those that are working with the oppressed. It is tough in both realms. So we are going to dedicate this space to praying for this trip and their journey over the next few weeks. Please leave comments of encouragement and prayers for them. Let them know that you support them. Let them know that you will be here to work through it all when they get back. More than anything…pray that God would use them in incredible ways to reach and touch the untouchable of society.
