STUCK BETWEEN A.M.’s

Today has been such a weird day. At 6:15am today I was awake and in my bed in Dallas. Tonight at 12:38am I am awake and in someone else's bed in California. Here are some highlights from my day. For those of you following my Daily Photo Journal, pics will be posted tomorrow. Until then...here are the highlights from the day: 1. Got to take my girls to school with my wife today. 2. Got to kiss my wife goodbye in the parking lot at my kids school (felt like I was a student again) 3. Got to hang with some of my team before I left. 4. Had lunch at T.G.I.Friday's at the airport ALONE...sometimes that is nice. 5. Sat next to a woman on the plane who had a small dog in her carry on bag. 6. Read half of Ian Cron's book "Chasing Francis"...you must read it. 7. Got to hang with one of my former students and his wife today...I am also staying in their house tonight. 8. Went to dinner with two of my favorite people ever. Daley and Julie 9. Had a great conversation with my host Daniel when … [Read more...]

Daily Photo Journal February 11th, 2009 Here I sit on Wednesday afternoon trying to tie up some loose ends before I hop a plane tomorrow to speak in L.A. I am excited about my trip, but feel more unprepared to travel than in the past. I have been out of the travel thing for a few months and now it is upon me again and I have to figure out things like what to pack, how big my carry on can be, if my toiletries are a threat to national security and the likes of those kind of conundrums. Today has been filled with anything but thinking about the mind blowing topics in the last sentence. It is been full of great meetings, visionary conversation, and now sitting here trying to study and prepare for the four speaking opportunities I have in L.A. I do get to hang with a couple great friends tomorrow night and cannot wait for that. Until then...there is a lot to do. Tonight I have our bi-weekly community group with some of our greatest friends on earth right now. I have to pack and make sure … [Read more...]

WE WILL TAKE OUR FREE CRAB CAKES NOW!!!

As you saw from yesterdays Daily Photo Journal entry, Laura and I went away a week early for our Valentine's Day getaway. We went to a great hotel in Mockingbird Station called The Palomar Dallas. If you are ever looking for a great place to get away and have a nice night...we would HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! Funny story from the night: We were being treated like royalty most of the day. We were staying in a suite right next door to Kevin Costner and apparently the staff thought we were a big deal too. At dinner, the concierge Connie, had set it up so we could have a great table with a great view. We decided to go down a little early and were promptly seated. As we sat down the atmosphere was electric. You could feel the energy coming from a place with such a great ambiance. We had been sitting down for the better part of ten minutes when Connie our concierge came over to our table apologizing that it was not the table she had promised. We were fine with the table and would not have know … [Read more...]

Daily Photo Journal January 29th, 2009 Today I had the opportunity to speak to an incredible group of college students at Dallas Christian College. I asked it they would participate in a picture with me right as I was about to speak. There are two sections of people that you cannot see, so I am sorry that you are not in the pic. However...great day with my friends at DCC!!! Black and White Version: Color Version: Which version do you prefer...? I think BW is my favorite!!! Thanks Mark Worley for taking the pic for me. … [Read more...]

THIS ROCKED MY WORLD!!!

Today and tomorrow I am attending the Innovate Conference here in Dallas. This quote ROCKED my world in our first main session. "I don’t need to show people how smart I am…I need to show them how good God is" -Stacey Spencer It always amazes me that we try so hard to impress people with what we know, that we miss out on showing them how good God really is. I know that I am guilty of it and so are you. My guess is, that if we were to stop trying so hard to further ourselves and worked harder at furthing the Kingdom, that more people would be willing to follow. Just a thought. More thoughts coming from Innovate tomorrow. … [Read more...]

38 DEGREES AND CRACK FOR MY SOUL

photo-2

So here I am sitting in the middle of St. Arbucks in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois. It finally feels like winter here. It is 38 degrees right now. It is freezing in here, but I have my crack for my soul in a Venti, quad shot, Americano. I am a little jittery and feeling shaky. Oddly enough, like a crack addict...it feels right. I just pounded out the last message in our giving series and I am pumped to communicate it this weekend. Back to Texas tomorrow and back to the mild summer that we call fall there. However, my crack for my soul will still be indulged when I get there. So not all is lost. … [Read more...]

TSA AGENTS MAKE ME FEEL BETTER WHEN THEY TOUCH ME WEARING BLUE SHIRTS!!!

This afternoon I find myself sitting in the Tulsa, OK airport. I was here two and a half hours early for my flight and thought that I would catch up on some reading and writing. As I walked into the airport there was nobody. The only person in the room was the ticket agent behind the counter. He did not even ask for my license to prove I was who I said I was. I came up to security and again...it was silent. Nobody but me and 25 TSA guys standing around in their nice new blue shirts (which makes me feel better when one of them wants to touch me in places I would only let my wife touch...but it is supposedly for the sake of security). I got through the check point with no issues and began the long walk down the concourse to my gate. The only people that I saw were people working in the bars and one lady waiting for a flight for another airline. I thought that surely there would be people waiting for the plane at my gate...however...when I got there...NO ONE!!! I began to feel as if … [Read more...]
